Volunteer Highlight | Colorado Springs Utilities

Good morning friends of Care and Share!

Please enjoy this month’s volunteer highlight.

For over 15 years, Colorado Springs Utilities (CSU) has supported Care and Share Food Bank by way of generous financial giving, administering food drives, and steady volunteering. “We organize employees as individuals and families to come to Care and Share one Saturday a month and sort food,” CSU’s community relations manager Susan Presti explains. “They love it here because they’re doing something where they can really see the direct impact they’re making in people’s lives. And they can teach their children how important volunteering is by modeling that.” Last year, CSU’s 131 volunteers donated nearly 450 labor hours to Care and Share Food Bank.

In addition, CSU conducts a twice yearly food drive at 14 facilities across and beyond Colorado Springs. The utility company chose Care and Share as a primary charitable beneficiary “because we’re both in the business of providing basic necessities and a safety net for people’s lives,” Presti says. “We feel that’s really vital for our citizens and the quality of life here.”

CSU and Care and Share have even teamed up during times of extraordinary need, including 2012’s Waldo Canyon Fire and in a special partnership administering CSU’s Project COPE utility assistance program.

“We couldn’t be more grateful to CSU and its dedicated employees,” Care and Share’s Volunteer Services and Community Outreach Director Eric Pizana says. “They are amazing partners whose year-in-year-out commitment is inspiring. These volunteers are more like friends. We couldn’t do what we do without them.”
