Within Reach Update

“Only those who attempt the absurd can achieve the impossible.”  Albert Einstein

Do you ever feel like the work you are doing is impossible?  Overwhelmed, but yet at the same time energized by the monumental size of the task at hand?  If these scenarios sound familiar, you are not alone.  At Care and Share Food Bank, sometimes we feel that we are facing the impossible in our efforts to provide access to food for all 171,000 of our neighbors at risk of hunger in Southern Colorado.

But that feeling of facing the impossible is fleeting when we look around and see the amazing work taking place at the food bank every day.  One case in point–Care and Share volunteers.  We know that delivering 25 million pounds of food throughout our 31-county service area is no easy task.  We have a small and mighty staff of employees, but it is truly our volunteers who keep this place running.  They try new things, provide suggestions, and are faithful in their service to us.  We have companies, individuals, and organizations who share our belief that no one should go hungry. Volunteers are interfacing with the community through events, assisting our partner agencies, designing new processes to ensure continuous improvement of our work, offering SNAP assistance to people in need, and supporting every single aspect of our work on a daily basis.

We’ve seen our volunteer services evolve in amazing ways during the past few years.  We will continue to engage volunteers in meaningful work to ensure that we get more food to more people in more places.  Care and Share’s vision for a brighter future isn’t absurd or impossible.  Because of our volunteers, it is Within Reach.
