Within Reach Update

“It’s not how much we give but how much love we put into giving.”
Mother Teresa

Mother Teresa’s feelings couldn’t be manifested more beautifully than in the actions of our new-found friend, Xzander. A young, strong, enthusiastic boy, Xzander represents all that we hope for in our young people. This week we were fortunate to have Xzander join us as a volunteer, serving individuals, families, and seniors as we distributed food to those in need. Xzander and his family have been in need before, so they know the importance of giving back. For three hours, at our first Summer Mobile Food Pantry with School District 11, Xzander passed out potatoes and plenty of his own food prep advice. When asked if he needed a break, Xzander looked wide-eyed and simply heaved another bag of potatoes on his shoulder to give to friends in the line.

As part of our Within Reach plans, Care and Share Food Bank is constantly on the lookout for ways to get more food to more people in more places. This summer, in partnership with Feeding America and thanks to the ConAgra Foods Foundation, Care and Share Food Bank is partnering with Colorado Springs School District 11 and our amazing cadre of volunteers to implement Summer Mobile Food Pantries all over Southern Colorado. On Wednesday, June 3, 2015, with Colorado Springs School District 11, we kicked off the summer food events with a special celebration. Fruits, vegetables, dairy, baked goods and nonperishable food were made available to children and families who no longer have access to school breakfast and lunch. This nourishing food will be available all summer long at various locations in Colorado Springs, Pueblo, and throughout Southern Colorado. Perhaps you’d like to volunteer to serve at a mobile food pantry? Opportunities are posted at www.careandshare.org. We’d love to have you join us!

Many thanks to everyone who has made the Summer Mobile Food Pantries possible. For more information on the summer food service programs and locations visit: http://careandshare.org/Programs/SFSP.aspx
