When Keith began seeking volunteer opportunities, he thought “What about Care and Share? I’ve heard a lot about them.” So Keith and his family signed up. When they came to Care and Share for the first time they sorted fresh, local potatoes. Keith said, “Just walking into the warehouse for the first time, your jaw drops because of all programs they have.” After his first volunteer experience, he wanted to continue to contribute his time and talents. He started working with our senior program and loves knowing that he is helping low-income seniors receive the food they need to remain healthy and independent.
If you are thinking about volunteering, Keith’s advice is to “Just do it. Don’t even hesitate.” Keith was surprised by how much fun you can have and the workout you can get by volunteering to help our neighbors in need. He said, “All the people here are just wonderful to work with. The volunteers are great.” He understands that by giving your time, “you hit people in the heart” and that’s important. When Keith leaves Care and Share after his volunteer shift, he knows that he has helped out his own community, which is a unique and rewarding opportunity.
