Volunteer Highlight | Kathy Carson

Good morning friends of Care and Share!

Meet Kathy Carson, a dedicated volunteer whose commitment to Care and Share comes from her complete faith in our core purpose: Bridging the Gap between Hunger and Abundance
Before she became a regular volunteer, Kathy knew about Care and Share because of community food drives and our work during the Waldo Canyon Fire. But it wasn’t until she experienced the Summer Mobile Food Pantries at Mitchell High School and Mark Twain Elementary School that she was “hooked” on Care and Share.

When Kathy spends time with us, she knows that her work is making a difference in the lives of many. She says, “I am sure there would be a lot of people going hungry if Care and Share didn’t exist.” Kathy understands the value of nutritious food for those struggling to make ends meet. She also knows the importance of using resources efficiently, which is why she has started to get involved in Care and Share’s recycling efforts. To Kathy, “helping the environment by reducing the trash we send to the landfill” is an extremely important personal goal.

Not only is Kathy an active member of Care and Share’s recycling process, but she also dedicates her time distributing food through our Mobile Food Pantries. Kathy loves to interact directly with those benefiting from the “hard work of staff and volunteers.” Seeing the difference she is making in an individual’s life leaves her with a “great feeling,” especially since she knows that the healthy food we distribute is helping people like young mothers who want their children to have nutritious meals, as well as seniors who are struggling to buy vegetables on severely low, fixed incomes.

Working with Care and Share means that Kathy is part a team that is fighting to end hunger in Southern Colorado. She looks forward to the future where no one is hungry and a community that has “less crime, higher achieving students, a stronger workforce, more citizen involvement, and a happier populace.”

When she isn’t volunteering at Care and Share, Kathy explores her artistic side through hobbies such as hand-dying silk scarves and ties, soap-making, wine-making, photography, and more. In fact, she sells her handcrafted work on www.etsy.com/shop/bayfieldstudios. Kathy is also an avid traveler who has experienced the safaris of Africa, the Galapagos Islands, and the Mediterranean area with her husband, Kent. Even with her busy life, Kathy always finds time to help fight hunger, making her one of Care and Share’s most committed volunteers.

Thanks for reading and have a great day!
