Staff Highlight | Kevin Westendorf

Good morning friends of Care and Share!

Please enjoy today’s staff highlight.

Kevin started working here nearly six months ago and he has “greatly enjoyed every moment of it.”
He primarily works to provide order fulfillment for our partner agencies, as well as offloading and processing incoming food, putting away full pallets of sorted food, and helping out anywhere else he is needed.

Before Care and Share, he worked at Phil Long Ford of Motor City for more than five years taking care of the vehicle inventory. It was quite an experience and he grew a lot during his time there. In his last year there, Kevin said “I decided I wanted to apply myself and the experience I gained in a position where I can help people and work for a company that is a valuable asset to the Colorado Springs community.”

Kevin says that what’s been so wonderful about working at Care and Share are “the people I am lucky enough to call my coworkers. Everyone here has shown hospitality and a willingness to work together like I’ve never seen before within a company. Also, each day brings something new to the table so I always feel busy, but not stressed out, as I know I’m doing good for the community.”

Fun tidbits
Back in 2013, Kevin was introduced to hiking and realized he absolutely loves it! He’s been hiking regularly ever since, but this year he set a personal goal of hiking 200 miles before the year ended. He reached that goal the day after Thanksgiving and even surpassed it! Many of those miles took place not just in Colorado, but in Arkansas and Utah as well.

Next year, his goal will officially be 250 miles but, if he’s “feeling a little adventurous,” he might aim for 300. Wish him luck!

What does Kevin love most about the holiday season?
One of his favorite things about the season is how the downtown area gets lit up in Christmas lights and there’s an ice rink that opens up, which is so much fun! He “especially love how everyone, especially my family and friends, instinctively gets closer together to share the love and warmth we all have for each other.”

Thanks for reading and have a great day!

P.S. If you like to ice skate during the holiday season, check out Skate Night, which benefits the Empty Stocking Fund
