SNAP Talk

Good morning friends of Care and Share!

Many of you know that we administer outreach and application assistance for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP-formerly known as food stamps).

We have a wonderful SNAP Analyst, who is a part-time employee, and her volunteers called SNAP Ambassadors, that talk with eligible individuals about the program and help them apply. Last year, this impressive team helped nearly 1,000 individuals apply for SNAP!

SNAP, working in tandem with our partner agencies and food distribution programs, helps to mitigate the negative effects of hunger. By themselves, food banks and SNAP are not enough to solve hunger, but together they are.

We understand that SNAP is a hot-button topic; however, many people are often unaware of how the program really works. For example, did you know that if you are between the ages of 18-49 and considered to be able bodied, you must volunteer or be employed 20 hours per week in order to maintain benefits?
