Hi friends of Care and Share!
Yesterday, we attended a ribbon cutting event at the Kum & Go on Research Parkway. First off, if you haven’t seen this new store, you should check it out. It is amazing! The building is LEED certified (aka very environmentally friendly), has beautiful views, delicious fresh-made food (they make their own bread and pastries daily in their kitchen), an outdoor patio, and outlets and USB ports throughout their seating area!
Aside from all of this awesomeness, Kum & Go is deeply invested in the communities they serve. They provide grant funding to local nonprofits, including Care and Share. They are also focused on reducing food waste. We are partnering with this location to pilot their newly implemented food rescue program. Food that would otherwise go to waste will now be going to one our partner agencies: Tri-Lakes Cares.

We are going to pilot this program at the new store for about a month, with the ultimate goal of implementing food rescue at all of the Colorado Springs Kum & Go stores by year’s end. What’s even more exciting is that Feeding America is involved too, so that all of the Kum & Go stores in 11 states will be reducing food waste! We are proud that Colorado Springs was the very first test market for this important initiative, and we are honored to work with such an amazing partner in the fight against hunger. Kum & Go is a shining example of corporate responsibility.
