Cooking Matters Spotlight

Good morning friends of Care and Share!

Are you looking for a fun and rewarding volunteer experience? Check out our Share Our Strength’s Cooking Matters™ program.

Cooking Matters courses include six weekly, two-hour lessons to help families with limited resources make healthy snacks and meals using foods that are commonly available in stores and food pantries.

Our Cooking Matters Coordinators, along with specialized volunteers, provides hands-on training to low-income individuals at no cost! Classes are available for:

  • Adults (special addendums are available for those with Diabetes)
  • Families with children ages 6 to 12
  • Childcare Professionals
  • Cooking Matters for Parents

What are our volunteers saying about Cooking Matters?

“I enjoy giving back to the community, and being involved with a program with participants who are motivated to learn.”

“I completely believe in teaching health, nutrition, and cooking on a budget, to any population group.”

“It was great to work with kids and parents who really wanted to learn about cooking.”

“Well organized, easy to work with, knowledgeable, and appreciative of all the volunteers as well as the participants.”

If you have culinary or nutrition expertise, including enjoying assisting in the kitchen or shopping for groceries, and would like to volunteer, please reach out to one of our staff members:
