Volunteer Highlight | Cathy Reilly

Cathy is a mother of three children and was a stay-at-home mom for most of their lives. As they became older and needed her less, she funneled her energy into volunteerism. In fact, she’s been a volunteer in one capacity or another for different agencies for more than 30 years!  Cathy started volunteering at Care and Share entering data and transitioned to working in our warehouse. She loves this work. She said that “the spirit of volunteerism started with my mother, who did a lot of work on many issues.  World hunger was a very big issue for her.  And this is a way I can honor her memory and her legacy.”

The bottom line for Cathy is that Care and Share is about something we can all agree on, “in a time that’s tumultuous, in a city that is known for controversy – everybody has to eat.”  Recently, she met a women and her little toddler. The mother was having a really tough time and needed some help. Cathy found some milk, yogurt, a few eggs, two bags of nonperishables, and gave them to this woman, along with a big hug from one mom to another. Cathy provided more than just food, she offered understanding, encouragement, and hope.  Cathy sees her work as a little drop in the bucket, but says “those drops in the bucket add up.”
