The employees at T. Rowe Price are frequent volunteers at Care and Share, but in honor of the company’s June hunger-themed awareness month, we came to them. Several of the staff at the national investment company stationed here in Colorado Springs helped pack food such as breakfast items, protein, soup, beans, starches, vegetables, and fruit into bags to be distributed through our Send Hunger Packing program.
Send Hunger Packing is part of Care and Share’s Children’s Nutrition Initiative. Bags of food are slipped to children in their backpacks to be taken home and shared with their financially struggling families every Friday during the school year. The program is meant to reach children when they’re not immediately at school and assist their families at times when it’s hard to make ends meet.
During the short afternoon volunteer session at T. Rowe Price, the volunteers were able to pack 1,063 pounds of food for participating children and their families. Jessica Isensee, the T. Rowe Price Foundation Liaison, helped organize this event. “We do a lot in the packing room at Care and Share,” she explains, “But to be able to do that here where people can just come for a little while, come down, make a difference… I think it was a good educational opportunity for them.”
In the past year, Care and Share Food Bank has worked with 76 volunteers from T. Rowe Price. This dedicated team has contributed 230 hours of service, which is more than $5,590 worth of time!
