Good morning friends of Care and Share!

Things in our office are a bit disheveled lately…

Why, you ask? Thanks to the generosity of Miss Lyda Hill, we are having Sundoliers installed! Sundoliers will harness the sun’s power to light up our warehouse and office space. This amazing technology maximizes available daylight and delivers it where it’s needed without glare or hot-spots.

Here’s one that is in the shipping container and will be installed today!

The installation of the Sundoliers is quite a process.

Once installed, the Sundoliers will save us tons on energy costs and provide us with a beautiful, naturally lighted work space.

This project is in alignment with our goal to be environmentally conscious in all that we do. Our state-of-the-art Colorado Springs facility is Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) certified. LEED is a green building certification program, administered by the U.S. Green Building Council, that recognizes best-in-class building strategies and practices. To receive LEED certification, building projects satisfy prerequisites and earn points to achieve different levels of certification. We are LEED Silver certified.

As you probably already know, we are also on the cutting edge of food waste recycling, providing local farmers with animal feed and compost made of food that isn’t suitable for our neighbors in need.

Through our Zero Waste recycling program, we divert 87% of our waste (food, pallets, shrink wrap, cans, and cardboard) from landfills–this is an impressive feat considering the fact that Colorado Springs as a city only diverts 8% of its waste from landfills.

More news about GoalZero Recycling, a social enterprise based on our recycling expertise, will be coming soon…stay tuned!

Thanks for reading and have a wonderful Wednesday.
