Giving Back to the Community with Fishes and Loaves in Colorado
Since 2000, Delton has suffered from numerous health complications. In order to remain healthy, he needs the right food, which is oftentimes more expensive. Delton understands that what you eat affects your body and “your whole total being.”
When he completely ran out of food, he decided that he needed to seek help. He heard about the Fishes and Loaves Food Pantry, which is a partner agency of Care and Share’s, from some of his friends. Delton took a chance, and when he saw the quality of food that the pantry provided, such as nutritious choices from our local Trader Joe’s, he was so grateful. The food he received from Fishes and Loaves also granted him the opportunity to stretch his budget by using some of his regular grocery money on other basic necessities, such as housing and utilities.
After a few trips to the food pantry, Delton decided that he wanted to give back and share some of his time to help those that needed the food just as he did, so he began volunteering. Delton has been volunteering for about a year now because he was once shown generosity and kindness by someone who cared enough to help him. Delton believes that our stories are meant to be shared and that giving back is of high importance. His advice: “make sure that you’re giving from the love that’s within your heart.”
