Meet our Kitchen Coordinator

Meet Donna: Q & A with our Kitchen and Gardens Coordinator

Q: How long have you been working at Care and Share?

A: I have been at Care and Share for nine years. The first year was as a garden volunteer.  I moved into accounting for a while, then to the kitchen.

Q: What do you love about your job?

A: It’s never boring!  The variety of things I get to make, the different events we put together, the response of folks to homemade food, how much fun we have in the kitchen and the satisfaction of feeding good food to kids who need it…even the mass shopping trips.

Q: You’re a fantastic cook… how did you get into cooking, and why do you like it?

A: Mom said her meatloaf always fell apart and I made one that didn’t! Cooking is creative. It’s necessary. It’s fun. It’s delicious.

Q: Tell us a little bit about your kitchen team here. How do they help you out?

A: They are necessary to the success of every dish that comes out of the kitchen.  We learn from each other.  The volunteers in the kitchen are willing to do anything as long as I lay out the timelines and recipes.  They wholeheartedly support any program we present. In turn, I make sure they understand that their contributions of time, effort, and generosity are valued and totally appreciated.

Q: Why do you think Catering for a Cause is unique and valuable to our organization?

A:  It offers us another way to support our community and it offers them a different experience and a different way to support us and benefit themselves at the same time.

Q: Anything else you want to add?

A: Care and Share has a dedicated staff, volunteer force, Board of Directors and donors, and I get to reward their hard work by feeding them, too.
