Good morning friends of Care and Share!

Today’s post is from Elizabeth Martin, our SNAP Analyst. SNAP, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (formerly known as food stamps), is hugely important in the fight against hunger. People struggling with hunger rarely receive enough food from pantries to meet their needs. Likewise, people receiving SNAP benefits rarely receive enough benefits to put an adequate amount of food on their tables. Together, these safety net services work together to bridge the gap for families working to get back on their feet. Please enjoy Elizabeth’s post!

I started working with Care and Share as a Volunteer in October 2013. After working in several different areas here in the office, I found the SNAP Ambassador program. Once I began volunteering with SNAP I fell in love with the program and more importantly the people in our community that I get to help.

January of this year I transitioned to the position of SNAP Analyst, and this is where I plan to stay! My role as SNAP Analyst  is to provide Outreach and Support to our local communities along with Recruiting and Training new SNAP Ambassadors. We work with various outreach sites providing Snap application assistance and support. I absolutely love that I get to work with families by helping to make a difference in their day to day ability to purchase food. Snap allows healthier lifestyle choices for these families by giving them a hand up.

I have been married to Tom Martin, my high school sweetheart, for 38 years. We spent 30 years traveling around the world with the Air Force. When Tom retired, we chose to come back to where it all began. We have two children and six amazing grandkids who I adore with every ounce of my being. Life is GREAT!
