Senior Nutrition

Good morning friends of Care and Share!

Did you know that an estimated 64% of the households that we serve have had to choose between paying for food and paying for medicine or medical care at least once in the past year

Many of these households include seniors that are living on very low, fixed incomes. Low-income seniors are at increased risk of nutritional deficiencies, which makes it harder for them to remain healthy and independent.

Additionally, an estimated 18% of our client households include grandparents who have responsibility for grandchildren who live with them.

We reach seniors in need of additional food resources through our Commodity Supplemental Food Program. This program is designed to fill the gap that often exists between a sufficient diet for these seniors and the money to afford to eat well.

Currently, we provide 2,400 at-risk seniors across Southern Colorado with a box of nutritious staple foods each month, but there are many seniors still in need. Care and Share is looking to increase the number of seniors we reach with this vital program, specifically in El Paso County.

If you are a senior in need of additional food, or know a senior in need, please click here to see about qualifying for this fantastic program.

If you have any questions or would like more information, please contact Denise Meredith, our Commodities Manager, at denise@careandshare.org or at (719) 434-4683.

Thanks for reading and thanks for helping us spread this word!
