In order to achieve Within Reach, we are learning to work with volunteers in new and innovative ways. We have more volunteers than we ever have before, and they are working for us in ways that they never have before.
For example, every year Care and Share participates in the Combined Federal Campaign (CFC), which is the only opportunity local nonprofits have to get onto the military bases and speak with federal employees about our work. CFC is one of the largest workplace giving campaigns in the world.
We annually revisit the option of sending a Care and Share volunteer to the CFC tabling events, but have always remained hesitant to “give away” this piece of our work. This year, however, we decided to send our amazing volunteer Christina Chafe to represent Care and Share at these important events. She attended events at Peterson Air Force Base, Schriever Air Force Base, and Fort Carson. She also helped the CFC team prepare and pack materials for the tens of thousands of individuals that work on all of the local military bases.
Christina became a shining star of the CFC and was even honored with a special award by the campaign coordinators. She went above and beyond in every way and has proven to us, once again, that volunteers can not only help us to accomplish our work, but they can make our work so much better.
