Good morning friends of Care and Share!
We have an exciting announcement to make-Starbucks will now be donating 100% of unsold food through its FoodShare program.
This means that all unsold sandwiches, paninis, salads, and fruit and cheese boxes, vegetables and hummus, and wraps will go to those at risk of hunger throughout the US. These perishable food items will be picked up from Starbucks stores each day in refrigerated vans and redistributed to food banks like Care and Share.
FoodShare will provide five million meals in the first year and nearly 50 million by 2021, when it expects to reach a 100% donation rate. The pledge is significant given a government goal set last year to cut food waste in half by 2030 in order to address climate change.
We are thrilled that influential, mega companies like Starbucks are taking action in the fight against hunger. There is enough food out there to feed EVERYONE, and now we are one step closer to making this a reality.
