We cannot provide access to food for all of our Southern Colorado neighbors without working together. Everyone must come to the table if we hope to make our dream a reality.
Walmart, one of our largest partners in the fight against hunger, sets an example of the difference we can make when we work together. Every day, our hardworking drivers are at the back doors of Walmart and other grocery stores receiving donations. Walmart stores throughout Southern Colorado donate hundreds of thousands of pounds of food to us each year so that we can ensure our neighbors have the food they need to thrive.
Most recently, Walmart strengthened our ability to meet our goals by awarding us a grant to purchase a new truck. Some trucks in our fleet are older and don’t have the capacity that newer, larger trucks do. Seeing this barrier to success, Walmart established infrastructure grants to ensure Feeding America food banks throughout the country have the equipment they need to get the job done. Care and Share was a fortunate recipient of one of these grants. Soon a new truck will be traveling the roads of Pueblo, picking up food from our store donors and getting it to the people who need it most.
In addition to the much needed grant for a new truck, Walmart has been a loyal Care and Share partner in other ways. They’ve provided generously for our Children’s Nutrition Initiative, given support to build our SNAP outreach efforts, and this year they established an incentive fund and strategic plan to help us garner even more donations from their stores and other retailers.
Donors who help support our work, store personnel who take time from their busy schedules to gather food donations, truck drivers who work tirelessly to collect the food, faithful volunteers who commit to sorting the food, pantries and soup kitchens who make sure people receive the food…we are all working together to accomplish what is Within Reach!
