Story Type: Volunteers
The YMCA team has been volunteering regularly at Care and Share Food Bank since the onset of COVID-19. Shannon Rauen, YMCA’s Director of Development and Planned Giving, recognized that although their centers were closed during the pandemic, they still had manpower. Shannon shared, “We have a staff that is community-minded and who love helping others, and that’s what they do every day. So we thought Care and Share would be a great way to keep them engaged, involved, and meet an important need in our community.” She shared that giving back through volunteerism is not only an extension of their organization’s mission, but also a neat opportunity to get to know fellow YMCA staff who may not see one another on a day to day basis.
Britany Garcia-Medina, Development & Team Support Coordinator at the YMCA, said her first-time volunteering here was, “intimidating with all the motion! But it was so fun, and cool to work with the team, and with different people that are in our community who I haven’t yet been able to connect with.” When asked to to summarize her experience in one word, Britany said, “humbling.”
Thank you, YMCA! We love having your team volunteer with us during a time of great need in our community.
