How We Helped: Hope

Roy is a husband, father of three girls, and a remodeler by trade. He was in the industry for eight years, and every year he could see himself moving further and further away from financial stability. Things started to deteriorate as he was laid off six times in the last four years. He was two months late on his mortgage and was getting closer to losing his house. He was at the point where he was considering standing on the side of the road, holding a sign asking for money. He said of the experience that “it was certainly very humbling to be at the point where I was trying to think of how large my sign would be and what it was going to say.” He remembers the day he came to Care and Share looking for help: “I had my daughter in my arms. I was very close to tears at the time because I have always been able to plan my next move, my next step, and I was just waiting on a whole bunch of calls for work and they hadn’t come in. So when I opened up that door there was a big lump in my throat. I was just trying to stand tall and do what I could for my family… I was just looking for help wherever I could.” We were able to provide Roy with a list of our partner agencies where he would be able to get assistance. Following his visit to the food bank, Roy received one of the calls he had been looking for. Shortly after coming to Care and Share, Roy starting working again and was able to provide for his family.
