Cooking Matters- Peter
Story Type: Programs
Programs Used: Cooking Matters
Peter Medina is our Pueblo Cooking Matters Coordinator. His enthusiasm is contagious and he has a knack for inspiring even the most introverted participant to get involved in cooking. He makes all of his students feel special and that their participation in the class matters.
Peter knows what it’s like to struggle to put healthy food on the table with limited resources. He learned about Cooking Matters when he was in need of volunteer hours to receive food stamps. After volunteering for Cooking Matters, joining Care and Share as a paid team member, and being inducted into the Cooking Matters Hall of Fame, Peter’s life has completely turned around. He recently received this note from a participant:
Thank you for providing a place to learn more than how to create a good meal. It’s okay to make mistakes because you show us ways to fix and remedy just about any blunder. For me this class has given me hope to start over again! I hope and look forward to becoming a better cook and dad for my family…I now want to live with an open positive heart. Before I was so closed down I had given up. Now I see there are so many good people to live for.
Peter said that “knowing that you are influencing participants in a positive manner is what I live for.”
