Story Type: Volunteers
Monica Jessen has been a long-time supporter of Care and Share Food Bank for Southern Colorado. She began volunteering along with her two young children in 1990. “I wanted to instill in my boys the belief of giving back to our community,” comments Monica. She volunteers at Care and Share’s Agency Checkout and Welcome Office throughout the week and she is often one of the first people in the building and the last one out. “Care and Share addresses every area of need,” Monica says. “From people in dire need of emergency food, to people who just need a short-term helping hand, or those affected by COVID-19, Care and Share is helping all of our neighbors in need and I am so proud to be part of that movement.”
One of Monica’s favorite aspect of volunteering is relationship building. She enjoys connecting with the agencies that visit Care and Share daily. “I love working with our partnering agencies. They often share stories from struggling families about how the food resources and other essentials have a made a difference to them and their family,” comments Monica. “It reminds me that I am part of larger network serving the greater good.”
Monica is always cheerful, upbeat, and on the go. There is no task too big or small – she is at Care and Share to make a difference.
