Mary Murray

Story Type: Volunteers

Mary Murray holds a strong belief that no child in this country should ever be hungry — and we agree! She first learned about Care and Share while working as a leader in giving for United Way, and throughout the years, she made financial contributions to support our mission. After retiring, Mary finally had time to volunteer and knew that Care and Share was where she wanted to be. She says Care and Share was “near and dear to my heart to put my time into.”

Mary volunteers with our Send Hunger Packing program, which had been a long-time favorite of hers. As a volunteer, she helps to fill bags with nutritious food for children to take home each Friday during the school year. During the summer months, you can find Mary volunteering at the Welcome Desk in our Distribution Center, where she greets and interacts with Care and Share’s partner agencies.  If Mary had to describe her experience in one word, it would be “rewarding.” She says all the people she has met in her time here have been wonderful, and that it’s a great place to volunteer. Overall, Mary says, “it is very rewarding to be able to contribute to the community that you live in.”
