Story Type: Volunteers
Cindy has been a fundamental part of our volunteer team for about two years. She had done some volunteer work when her kids were younger, but as they got older she was able to take on more responsibility at work and that kept her busy. Cindy felt, though, that something important was lacking in her life. She always had a longing to help people and to come home at the end of the day and say, “I feel good with what I did today.” After she retired at the age of 55, she said she decided to “Finally get to be what I wanted to be when I grow up.”
Cindy searched for the perfect place to donate her time and she finally landed on Care and Share. As an avid food lover, Cindy believes that food is an essential part of life and “you need food for a healthy body.” Cindy knows that “If you have other problems and you’re hungry, you can’t even address those other problems. You’ve got to take care of that one first, and now maybe you can think straight enough to solve all of your other problems, for instance how to provide a full belly tomorrow.” Cindy is on a mission to make sure that no one goes hungry, so she stepped right in at Care and Share and has not slowed down since.
Cindy does so much for Care and Share, including helping out with our Cooking Matters courses, working on the loading dock, documenting procedures for our Community Kitchen, and is currently a Peer Coordinator of our packing and sorting group. Her helping hands have made a difference in many lives and will continue to do so for years to come.
