Zero Waste | GoalZero Recycling

Did you know that most of the waste that is in our landfills is food?

It is estimated that from our farms to grocery stores to dinner tables, 30 percent of the food we grow is never eaten. What does that translate to? The USDA found that we waste 141 trillion calories worth of food, or 1,249 calories per capita per day!

As an organization that is working to feed our neighbors at risk of hunger, this is just not okay. Sometimes we get donated food items that we cannot safely distribute to our partner agencies because of damaged packaging, expiration dates, or recalls. We could easily throw this food in our dumpster, where it would eventually end up in a landfill. But instead, our Recycle Program team members spend countless hours processing food waste and turning it into animal feed and compost.

We also recycle cardboard, shrink wrap, and pallets. We bale this material and sell it to create an additional resource to acquire more food.

These efforts allow us to divert more than 85% of our waste from landfills!

We've been perfecting our recycling program since 2010. GOALZERO Recycling is a for-profit entity that will help fuel the mission of Care and Share by providing recycling services to local businesses, corporations, and organizations.
