Hi friends of Care and Share!
Today’s blog is about our Acorn Squash project, which came to life thanks to a lot of wonderful people (Care and Share employees from different departments, volunteers, and Send Hunger Packing Site Coordinators at various schools) pulling together and working hard to help us get fresh squash to all the kiddos and families that participate in our Send Hunger Packing program and School Pantries.
It begins with cases of squash neatly stacked inside these banana boxes, and when our Send Hunger Packing Site Coordinators come to our receiving area to pick up their bags of food, they also have the option to ask our volunteers to give them cases of squash and recipes for their students. Our volunteers weigh out the cases and the Site Coordinators are all set!
We also added cases of squash to all deliveries for our distant Send Hunger Packing sites who can’t make it to our distribution center, and each of our School Pantries. This process has helped to ensure that all of the children and families we feed are now able to receive fresh produce.
